The Villa; Julie/Jace's temp. home

Jace had returned to the Villa with Arram after the disaster of a trip, but things had been...difficult. Arram kept asking where 'mama' was, her markings were all over the home...Jace was honestly just trying to keep everything together.

People always talked about grieving, and the stages. Denial, anger, release. Whatever it was, Jace just felt numb. It was unreal, watching Lina drive that dagger through Julie's heart, but it wasn't like he didn't believe it. He'd watched her eyes dim. He'd watched the blood spill out. She was gone, and he didn't know what the hell he was supposed to be doing.

He knew what they had been doing, of course. They'd been preparing for their daughter. They'd been getting ready to move into their new house.

Jace had just put Arram down for a nap when he heard the knock on the door, and for a moment he was tempted to just ignore it. He didn't want to see anyone. He didn't want to see the pitying looks and the tears and the apologies. Still, not many people knew where they had lived after the apartment, and if someone was knocking, then he had to go see what was going on.

Unlocking and opening the door just to find Andre standing there? That was...unexpected. Jace stepped out, forcing the man to back up, and shut the door behind him.

"What do you want?" His voice was harsh, hoarse, not even bothering to grab his gun. It was in reach if he needed it, of course, but right then getting worked up over the visitor just seemed like too much energy.

"Hm, someone's touchy today." Andre was amused, honestly. Jason had stepped out, and he really hadn't expected to be invited in. He just stepped back accordingly so that they were on the front porch.

"Well, I believe the question is: what do you want?" he said. "And then, of course, how I can provide it. I guarantee there's a way, but in return I'm going to need my son back."

Jason was not in the mood for games. He wasn't in the mood for anything to have to do with Andre, nor that smirk on his face, nor his clear amusement. The comment about being touchy was only received by a stone face, his arms crossing tightly as he listened to whatever ridiculous scheme Andre had come up with now.

"I don't want nor need anything from you. Never have, and never will. There is no way for you to guarantee me anything because I have what I'm able to, and I will never, ever give you my son. So if you're quite finished, and value your life? I would return to that state of the art mansion you favour hiding out in." His words held the unleashed hint of temper, the anger that had just been begging to explode out of him ever since that damn card spoke.

Andre raised an amused eyebrow. "Oh, I'd beg to differ," he said lightly. "That is, unless you wanted to raise my son as a single parent?" He shrugged. "Not that I'd blame you. You could have more than you do; you're just choosing not to. Shame. But I can't wait to tell her about that particular choice." This was actually really interesting to him.

"And I do value my life," he added. "Clearly more than you value your wife's, at any rate."

Jace raised his eyes to the sky for a moment, breathing in deeply through his nose. Were there already articles? Did the idiot think he didn't know? He'd been right there. He'd watched it happen. This kind of sick game? It was even more cruel than Andre tended to be.

It was also more moronic.

However, indicating that he hadn't valued Julie, or her life? He saw red, his fists clenching as he just drew back and punched the man. "Don't you dare talk about her. I would have done anything to stop that, but I was there. Don't play your sick little mind games with me."

Andre literally had to stumble backward from the force of the punch, and he knew that was definitely going to be bruising later if he didn't get his Healer to make a house call. Holding a hand up to his jaw, he retorted, "You know, if you didn't jump to conclusions so often, you might just get some answers."

Just what Jason was going on about being 'there' for was interesting, and he realized that this was probably much more effective than he'd thought it'd be for reasons outside of his knowledge or control.

"No games; just the truth," he said. "I mean, you weren't there. You weren't, I was, and now I'm the only one who knows where she is." He shrugged. "I've just been waiting for you to get back from wherever you were, honestly. It's been four days. Funny because you're usually more on top of things than that. But I'm not a very patient man, Jason. So here's your choice: you either give me back my son whom you kidnapped from me, or you give up the idea of ever seeing your wife again."

The insult didn't bother Jason in the slightest, his eyes narrowing as Andre continued to talk.

"What are you talking about, Andre? Julie's dead. Remember that great little game you played in back in August? There's been another one of those. Her cousin killed her. I was standing there, and if you mean to tell me you were sticking your hand into that? If that's what you mean by you were there?"

He paused, trying not to let the idea of seeing his wife again like Andre had her fill him too much. Emotions were still raw. They still hurt. Clearly Andre was just there to rub salt into a wound. If he hadn't been so caught up on what happened, he might have been amused by how gullible Andre clearly thought he was.

Amused though, was not a feeling he was capable of holding at that point in time.

"Then I would be running right now."

Ah. So he thought she was dead. Well, that honestly made his conversation that much more amusing. And effective. His mind was already working, thinking about just how well this could be used to his advantage (the answer? very well).

"I wasn't there," he said, keeping calm. "I don't even know what you're talking about. All I know is that about a week ago, I was informed that you were either missing or not around, so I came to pay a visit to your wife a few days after that. She suspected me for you being gone, but, as we can both see, clearly that's not the case." He shrugged.

"And then she came back with me because she wouldn't tell me where my son was, so here's how this is going to work: you give me my son, and I give you your wife. Got it?"

Either Andre was lying or he really didn't know what Jason was talking about, and was just going on to say that he had this great deal. He was telling Jace that Julie had been kidnapped by him. That he had an effective trade idea going here.

"I don't believe you." Jace finally said, rubbing a hand over his face. "Seeing is believing, and whether or not you have a logical story to tell me, I didn't hallucinate. I did see it. I was there with fourty something other people who saw it too. Right now, I'm too tired to deal with your bullshit, so I'm telling you one more time. Get off my property, or you'll be leaving it in a body bag."

As he said that, he sighed, pulling his gun out and clicking off the safety.

"I believe you remember my accuracy." There was no jibe in his comment; his voice had gone back to being resigned and worn out.

"I remember your accuracy well. It served me quite nicely for years," Andre said. Hm, maybe he could somehow work it so that Jason had to work for him again. It'd be a shame to waste his talents by killing him, although he wouldn't hesitate if that's what he had to do.

"But seeing is believing, hm?" Well, he could change that. Producing a photo, he handed it to Jace. It was Julie, holding that day's Daily Prophet. "Honestly, I figured you'd need this to prove that I actually had her, not that she's actually alive," he said. Oh well.

"Anyways, might want to get checked about those hallucinations."

It was a backwards kind of compliment that Jason neither wanted nor needed, but it was one none the less. There was a mild spark of interest when Andre decided to agree with him and say that seeing was believing, but when he was handed the picture? Jace only reluctantly looked down at it, lips thinning as he took in the picture that was, actually, Julie. Seeing the date on the day's paper, he frowned.

It wasn't exactly possible, right? He'd...

There was multiples of themselves. He'd not seen Julie's Alt!Self, right? He'd been busy with his own and she'd walked off. She'd seemed very complacent and agreeable...

So Jace looked past the picture of his wife and the newspaper to try and place the decor.

"Where is she?" He asked, face impassive again as he looked back up at Andre. He wasn't sure that he wanted to be believe that she was alive, if only to avoid the disappointment when this turned out to be a metamorphasis or something, but at the same time...

Well, he couldn't stop the hope that had sparked up in him.

Andre loved getting the upper hand. Now all he had to do was maintain it. "She's somewhere you've never been," he said. "So you're not going to find her." He actually hadn't even taken her out of the country: she was in a safehouse apartment that he'd newly acquired.

"But you will get her back if you give me back my son and come back to work for me." Yes, that could work.

"Of course, since you seem to need to see her, you can at the pool house. Just for a few minutes, verify that she's alive for yourself, and then we'll discuss things."

Jace very nearly rolled his eyes when Andre told him that he'd not find her because she was somewhere he'd never been. Part of his job had been tracking people down. How quickly people forgot, right? Still, he was quiet, listening to what Andre wanted. It was a pretty good trick, but he was amused to find Andre adding on a second stipulation.

However, when he heard that he could see her, see for himself that she was alive and well, Jace actually began to consider it. Oh no, not giving the man Arram. Just...taking the opportunity to have proof. Of course, the pool house was cruel.

"We'll discuss things." He finally agreed, "When? I take it you have to retrieve her from the 'place I've never been.'" It was amazing how much better he felt knowing that she might actually be alive, and what he'd seen... it wasn't his wife. Or, it wasn't his wife in this world; amusement crept in to his voice at the last four words.

Discussing things definitely worked for Andre. It was better than he thought he'd get. Honestly, he didn't expect Jason to just give in right away. Actually, he'd been expecting an out-and-out refusal, which would have been rather annoying because he didn't want Julie. He wanted his son back and having Jason work for him would be a nice bonus. Well, obviously if the latter was going to happen, he'd have to keep her on the property so that Jason had a reason to keep coming back.

As said: they would discuss things.

"Meet me at the pool house in an hour. Before you'll be allowed on the property you'll be checked for any weapons or wands and then allowed in," he said.

"Fine. But I don't need a wand, nor a weapon. Just remember that."

Jason turned on his heel, fully aware that he wouldn't be attacked since he had something that Andre wanted, and walked into his house, locking the door behind him. Of course, now that Andre knew where they were saying only meant that they were going to have to move faster, but...he was going to have Julie back. Which meant that it wouldn't matter that they were moving because... she would be alive.

Jace took a minute at the door to think, but he realized quite acutely that Andre hadn't said anything about bringing Arram to the discussion.

After all, terms needed to be set.

As he had an hour, Jace took out his wand, and began to pack, waiting for Arram to wake up so he could take him safely to his mother's.

An owl flies through the window to drop off the following...

A post script reads:

-- Hey Jules, It's Kev. Abi thought it would save the owl exhaustion/time if we just delivered them together. I'm not entirely sure why that thought crossed her mind, but it's Abs and I suppose I shouldn't argue, right?

Congratulations on Camille, you and Jace have to be so excited. I'm so happy for you; truly. One of these days we'll have to have her (and Claire and Arram of course) meet up with Katie and Toby.

Happy birthday, Jules! My present is enclosed too.

--Kev
Enclosed you'll find a small little set of DVD movies; all spy thrillers and noir-style, mostly with lead females, save for one set of DVDs of winnie the pooh, evidently for Claire/Camille/Arram.
